The purpose of the Hernando Jazz Society is to; preserve, perform, and perpetuate all forms of Jazz, to support educational programs for our youth, provide performance opportunities for musicians, and produce musical performances.

This year’s performances included; HJS Big Band Bash, The Ladies Of Jazz, plus Duke Ellington and The Royalty of Jazz with a special appearance by former Duke Ellington bassist, John Lamb.  The HJS All Stars including Eddie Lawrence and Nelson Dellamaggiore gave several free concerts at the Spring Hill Library.  They also participated during the recent Art In the Park and on International Jazz Day April 30.

During the month of May the HJS proudly awarded four $500 scholarships to students in grades 9 thru 12.  This year’s winners included two vocalists a clarinetist and a guitar player.  These scholarships are available for private study of instruments or voice lessons.

If you enjoy listening and dancing to Big Band tunes performed live then plan on join the HJS at the Lake House for some Cool Summer Jazz at 2:00 PM on; June 15, July 20 and August 10 located at 1202 Kenlake Ave, Spring Hill.
