Founded in 1973, the Spring Hill Garden Club's guiding mission is to inspire understanding, appreciation and conservation of plants in gardens and natural areas and to advance a sustainable relationship between people and nature.
This not-for-profit, all-volunteer club is able to carry out this mission through monthly educational meetings, the on-going development and maintenance of the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens and plant nursery and the care and maintenance of Spring Hill's Landmark Waterfall at the entrance to the community.
The club meets at 1 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of the month, usually at Forest Oaks Lutheran Church, 8555 Forest Oaks Blvd. in Spring Hill and occasionally at the Nature Coast Botanical Gardens or local restaurants. Meetings feature guest speakers on topics of interest, refreshments and plant auctions; at least one pot-luck luncheon is held during the club year. Cost of membership is $30 for a couple and $20 for an individual.
Volunteers work during the hours of 9 a.m. to Noon on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the botanical gardens, plant nursery and the waterfall. You do not need to be a member of the club to assist as a volunteer.
The Nature Coast Botanical Gardens consists of 21 themed areas and is open to the public daily from sunup to sundown. Admission is free; donations are appreciated. The Plant Nursery is open to the public from 9 a.m. to Noon on Mondays and Saturdays; plants that grow well in this area are sold at reasonable prices.
